Prior to 2020, educators could anticipate where a student might struggle based on traditional benchmarks. Today, those assumptions are not reliable. Constant shuffling between online schooling and the classroom had an adverse effect on both student learning and emotional well-being. The fact is when we see students with these gaps, we no longer know why. Was the material not covered? Or, was it covered online but not taught correctly? Was it taught in the classroom? Was it taught at the end of the day, after students had “checked out” after a long day of learning online?
