Do You Provide in-Home Tutoring?

No, Brainiacs does not offer in-home tutoring. We have designed an ideal environment where our Program Specialists are able to provide a much richer learning experience on-site, where they have access to many resources, technology, and an array of professionals for additional support as needed.

Our Tutors

One of the first questions we hear when people learn about Brainiacs is “Why certified teachers?  Wouldn’t it be cheaper and easier to find other people to teach?”

The short answer is that “Of course it would be both cheaper and easier to hire students or graduates as our tutors, but there are so many reasons why OCT certified teachers are the best way to go.”

First and foremost, our certified teachers are dedicated teaching professionals.  They are not simply working at a tutoring centre because they want a part-time job, willing to leave once they find something elsewhere.  They understand and accept their responsibility to their students, the families, and Brainiacs.  Our tutors are committed to teaching children, and continually upgrading their skills.  They work at Brainiacs because it is a great way for them to do so, while gaining experience, surrounded by other such professionals, under the guidance of an OCT certified teacher.

Certified teachers have a wide-ranging bank of experiences.  They encounter many students at different levels, with various learning styles, skills, attitudes, challenges, and needs.  They know how to read, and apply their skills, to the situation.  Teachers bring more than just knowledge of content to the table.

Teachers also know what other teachers are looking for.  They know the differing expectations between grade levels.  They understand what it takes to produce work that not only meets, but exceeds grade expectations.  This is knowledge that only comes from experience inside the classroom and within the school system.  OCT certified teachers are the most qualified people to help your children.

That is the long answer.

How does your Tutoring Work?

At Brainiacs, all tutoring sessions are on a one-to-one basis. Tutoring sessions are a minimum of 1 hour in length, and increase based on your needs and preferences. We begin with an initial diagnostic assessment to determine your child’s academic strengths and areas that require greater development. Because each student is different, with unique needs, sessions are customized to the individual learner. During the learning sessions, we provide support and guidance for school assignments, projects, homework and tests, and any areas of need. Program Specialists use concrete materials and technology, together with real-world examples in order for the students to grasp the concepts being taught.

Why Brainiacs?

  • Gail personally selects and trains all program specialists and oversees each student’s program.
  • Our programs are individualized to each student based on needs and abilities.
  • Each student’s progress is monitored and documented, so that next steps and goals are clear.
  • There is on-going communication with parents, because we are a team… with the student’s success as a common goal.

One-on-One Tutoring with Certified Teachers

First things first, if your tutoring is not one-on-one, then it simply is not as good as it could be, or should be.  Your child’s learning style, and needs cannot be pigeon-holed into a generic group program.  Tutoring should be geared directly to each student, and the ideal way to do that is one-on-one.

Our program is individualized to each student.  We do that by getting to know the student through an intake diagnostic assessment aligned with Ministry expectations, and by understanding the goals set forth by the family.  Your child’s program will change as learning evolves. At Brainiacs, we believe in regular, ongoing communication with you, in order to ensure achievement of your goals.
